Bingo Rules

Bingo is one of the most popular games to play not only is it fun but also simple to play.  Here you can learn the basic bingo rules which are generally adopted in the online bingo world.

It all starts with players buying one or more bingo cards.  The cost of the cards will depend on what the bingo site is offering and the game in which you are playing.

A random number generator is used to select numbers (rather than a special container used in land-based bingo halls).  As the numbers are being produced and called by the generator, the player must search on their cards, if the number appears then they can mark the number off.  Online bingo games offer players the opportunity to use a feature called Auto-Daub which atomatically checks the numbers on a players card and daubes them.  This minimises the chance of players missing a number that has been called.

To win a game of bingo the player must be the first to match all of the numbers on their card with the numbers called out.  Once all of the numbers on the card have been called out it is known as a 'full house'.

When a player has luckily reached a winning combination on their card  they must shout 'Bingo'.  The game shall then come to a hault.  The numbers will be verified to ensure the numbers marked off are those that have been called.  Once the numbers have been confirmed as correct the winner shall then be announced.  If there happens to be more than one winner then the jackpot will be equally divided between all the winners.

There are two major versions of bingo played onlined - 90 Ball Bingo and 75 Ball Bingo. Both games have the same principle foundations but do have many differences.  90 Ball Bingo is traditionally played in the United Kingdom and Australia. 75 Ball Bingo is traditionally played in America and Canada.

90 Ball Bingo

90 Ball Bingo is one of the most popular games played for most bingo sites and yes you got it it is played with 90 balls.  Player's cards will have 3 rows and 9 columns with 27 squares in total. There will be 5 squares in each row containing a number ranging from 1 to 90. So 15 squares will have numbers in them and the rest of the squares will be left blank.  There are 3 patterns that a player aims to match.  Each pattern has a prize.  The amount of cards you purchase is completely up to a player.  A single card can be brought or a strip usually containing 6 cards can be purchased.

The first pattern to be obtained is a single line of numbers called and crossed off by a player.

The second pattern to be obtained is two lines of numbers called and crossed off by a player.

The third pattern to be obtained is all three lines of numbers being called and crossed off by a player.  This is also known as a Full House.

Once the game has started you should be able to see what prizes are up for grabs for one line, two lines and the full house.  The first player to successfully match all numbers from their ticket to the numbers that are called out will be deemed the winner and shall win the prize. Hooray!

75 Ball Bingo

75 Ball Bingo is played with 75 numbers opposed to the 90 numbers.  In the same way the numbers are called and the players have to mark off the numbers on their own cards.

The Bingo cards used in 75 Ball bingo have five columns that are each marked with the B-I-N-G-O letters. In total there are 25 squares, 5 rows and 5 columns. Each column will contain a number within a given range as below

B          numbers range from 1 to 15

I           numbers range from 16 to 30

N          numbers range from 31 to 45

G          numbers range from 46 to 60

O          number range from  61-75

Each card will have a free square in the middle of the card in the N column. This free square always counts as if it was a number which had been called and so can be part of a winning pattern.

With the 75 ball bingo game there is only one prize to be won. Players are required to mark off numbers as they are called making a particular shape (the shape will be displayed to which they have to follow such as an L shape).  There are a wide variety of shapes that can be made including covering the whole card which is sometimes known as blackout bingo.

Progressive Jackpots and Other Prizes

Progressive jackpots increase with every game that is played. Jackpot games are usually connected to create one large jackpot.  As each game is played a small amount of prize money (from the sales of cards) is put aside and added progressively to the jackpot.  To win the jackpot a player must call 'bingo' before a set amount of numbers have been called (this number will be set and displayed before the game starts).  The set number is known as 'Calls to jackpot number' and will appear next to the jackpot value on the site.  Fantastic jackposts running into several thousands of pounds are sometimes up for grabs.  Look out for progressive jackpots they are usually available in both 75 and 90 ball bingo games.
