Latest News! Mini Says Goodbye To 850 Workers

All weekend work has been scraped as Mini plans to lose 850 of its workers.  Agency staff that covered the weekend work have lost their jobs with immediate effect.

 

BMW has blamed the volatile economic conditions for the job cuts.  They will be implementing a new shift pattern amongst the remaining workers going from a three shift pattern to a two shift pattern and only operating 5 days a week instead of the usual 7.

 

The struggling motor industry has axed thousands of jobs as sales have plunged worldwide and current staff fear for their future.  The UK alone has seen Aston Martin, Bentley, Jaguar, and Nissan make reductions in production. Manufacturing, investment and consumption have been some of the hardest hit areas with the hostile economy which is at its worst since the Second World War.

 

The Confederation of British Industries announced today that the government will be borrowing £100 billion more than it planned during the recession and forecasts that the UK will be in a deep recession for the whole of 2009.  The CBI also predicts the rise in unemployment will peak at 3 million in a year's time.  They are expecting that 2010 will see the UK's economy recover and stated the government needs to take urgent action in unblocking the credit markets.

 

It is not just in the UK which is being effect as Japans sees its economy shrinking the fastest in 35 years. Japans export dependent economy is the worlds second largest economy and are expecting more job cuts, reduced production and fall in profits.
