England is experiencing the most snow it
has seen in 18 years with people experiencing great disruptions to their daily
routines.
Severe
weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office with most parts of England being affected by the snow and hundreds
of schools up and down the country being forced to close.
Forecasters
have predicted more snow today and Tuesday with temperatures not expected to
rise above freezing.
The vast
amount of snow has affected travel, motorists have been warned of the dangerous
driving conditions, and urged to only make journeys if they are essential.
The
London Ambulance Service is said to only be responding to life-threatening
calls today and the Old Bailey court has completely closed. London
Underground lines have been closed or partially suspended and the London bus services have been suspended
for the safety of its passengers.
1 in 5 workers are expected to
actually make it into work today. The slow down in business is estimated to
cost the UK economy £1billion as emails go
unanswered and parcels left undelivered. The total cost to the economy could
well rise if the weather conditions remain the same. The stock markets are
experiencing light trading this morning with about only half of traders actually
making it to their desk and as a result the UK currency has been sliding.
All
flights have been cancelled at Heathrow till 5pm today which is more than 250
flights. Any passengers hoping to fly have been told to expect delays,
cancellations and urged to double check their flights before leaving home.
The south
east of England has been hit the hardest and snow
ploughs have been out for the first time in 15 years. Amidst all the chaos fun is in abundance with
snow fights taking place around the country.
